The Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Congregation was established in the year 1844 in Pondicherry. The Congregation aimed at liberating the oppressed and illiterate womenfolk from atrocities and social injustices.
In the field of education, the Congregation administers several Primary and Middle Schools, High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools. It also has technical training institution, and community college which provides job opportunities to the womenfolk.
In order to empower women in the field of higher education, the congregation runs ten colleges providing quality higher education for women in the serene atmosphere. Priority is given to less privileged and marginalized women.
The prime motive to start these institutions is to provide opportunities for women to gain self-reliance and to improve their standard of living.
