Computer Science is a course which deals with the study of the algorithmic process and the computational machines that are included in this course. Computer Science is used in our daily lives as well to convert the raw facts and the data into useful information that can be used by humans daily. The main focus of computer science course is to give rise to professionals who can work in the sectors that provide different services to the companies.
The Department of Computer Science was started in the year 2008 with one staff and 38 students.
The department got affiliation in the year 2008 with the sanctioned strength of 50 students under Pondicherry University. We started with 38 students in the academic year 2008-2009 and the student intake has been increased in the year 2015 with 75 students. The very next year itself the sanctioned strength has been promoted to 100 students. Now our department has grown up to 298 students per year. So far 938 students have been passed out with good academic results.
To be a recognized leader by imparting quality technical education and thereby facilitating the extensive research environment, equipping students with latest skills in the field of technology supplemented with practical orientation to face challenges in the fast morphing modern computing industry and academia for the betterment of the society.”
The computer lab is equipped with latest computers. Computer Lab 1 with 60 systems and 1 LCD projector. Our lab is well equipped with the latest configuration machines and original software. The network communication includes a fiber optic backbone offering 100 Mbps connectivity to the internet. The department has wireless internet connectivity to access the network by the laptop and mobile. Our curriculum includes a wide variety of subjects to enhance the practical knowledge of the students, which are listed below:
sportsperson UTHIRA from III Year B.Sc. Computer Science, proudly represented our college in the State-Level Marathon Competition. She secured 11th place among numerous participants from across the state and was honored with a cash prize of Rs.1000 for her remarkable achievement.
The Department of Computer Science participated in the International Seminar at Krishnasamy College of arts and science for women Cuddalore, on 23.09.2025. Malliga and Harini Priya from II Year Computer Science secured second place in the Paper Presentation.

K25 at St.Joseph College ,Cuddalore on 23rd September 2025 and won the Overall Runner Up Trophy. Ann Mary Thomas from Third year secured First prize in the Paper Presentation.
S. Preethi (II-B), A. Harini, M. Lochana (II-A), M. Vaishnavi (III-B), Varsha(I-B), Nivepradeepa(I-A) students from our department have been selected as a player of Pondicherry Rocket Ball team for the participation of forth coming 2nd Junior Rocket Ball Championship held at Fathima School, Pondicherry from 25th to 28th September 2025 totally 7 states participated. Pondicherry state team won the First Prize.
Yogasri (III-B), Harini. A, Kirthiga (II-A) from Department of Computer Science were participated in the 12th Under 19 State Level Tennis Ball Cricket Championship which was organized by Tennis Ball Cricket Association. They have won the 3rd prize.

“Cdt. Ann Mary Thomas from the Department of Computer Science was selected as one of the 27 cadets for the prestigious Youth Exchange Programme. During the programme, she met Lt Gen Virendar Vats, VSM, Deputy Director General (Rajasthan), and the Director General of Nepal. In recognition of her dedication and achievements, she was awarded the Youth Exchange Medal—a proud milestone in her cadet journey.”
A research paper titled "Exploring Techniques and Applications of Prompt Engineering for Large Language Models" was successfully published in the International Journal of Scientific Research in Engineering and Management. The work was completed under the guidance of Mrs. Princy Medona Mary and Mrs. Nivethamani, marking an important academic achievement and contribution to the field.
Vijayadharshini U, III year from Department of Computer Science secured Third Prize in the Senior Doubles category at the Soft Tennis League 2025–26 held on 30 November 2025 at The Study L’Ecole International School, Kalapet, Pondicherry.
An Ideathon was conducted by Pondicherry University on 26th and 27th February 2026. A total of 40 papers were selected for Round 1, in which 8 teams from our college participated.
Out of 7 teams shortlisted for Round 2, 2 teams were from our college. One team — Malliga, Kadar Bee, and Kaviya (II B.Sc. Computer Science) — secured the 3rd Prize and won a cash award of ?5,000, bringing pride to the institution
An Inter-Collegiate Competition was held at Saradha Gangadharan College, where 14 Computer Science students actively participated in various events and won multiple prizes, showcasing their talent and gaining valuable experience.

Report on the National Workshop on Photoshop
The Department of Computer Science, Idhaya College, Puducherry, organized a two-day National Workshop on Photoshop on 7th and 8th October at the Idhaya Auditorium. The workshop focused on providing students with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in graphic designing and Photoshop.
Mr. S. Vimal Shanmugam, Technical Lead – Graphic Design and UX/UI Design Specialist, Cornerstone Engineering Solutions, conducted the sessions and shared valuable insights into Photoshop tools, design techniques, and visual design. More than 50 students from various colleges actively participated.
The workshop enhanced students’ creative and technical skills through practical sessions and provided useful exposure to professional design practices. The programme concluded successfully with active participation from students and faculty members.
Industrial Visit Report
The Department of Computer Science organized an industrial visit to Bosco Soft Technologies, Yelagiri, on 09.10.2026 for 160 I, II, and III-year Computer Science students, accompanied by four faculty members.
The visit provided students with practical exposure to the software industry, including software development, SDLC, teamwork, and professional skills. It helped them understand the application of classroom concepts in real-world projects and gain awareness of IT career opportunities.
Students also visited Lord Murugan Temple and Yelagiri Boat House, which provided opportunities for relaxation and team bonding.
Overall, the visit was an informative and enriching experience that successfully connected academic learning with industry practices and motivated students towards their future careers in the IT sector.
The Department of Computer Science, Idhaya College, Puducherry, organized a Hands-on Practice on Canva on 29 September 2026 at 9.30 a.m. at the Idhaya Auditorium. Mr. S. Balabasker, B.E., M.Tech., Founder of Ediylabs Technology Solutions and Webroid Business Solutions, Cuddalore, served as the Resource Person. He demonstrated Canva’s features and guided students in creating posters, presentations, and digital content. The interactive session enhanced students’ practical design skills, creativity, and confidence in using Canva.
The Department of Computer Science, Idhaya College, Puducherry, organized a Guest Lecture on “Autonomous Mobile Robot Navigation Using ROS” on 16th September 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Idhaya Auditorium.
The session was delivered by Mr. Pradaap. B, Technical Lead at Cornerstone Engineering Solutions, Puducherry. He introduced the students to the fundamentals of autonomous mobile robots and explained the role of Robot Operating System (ROS) in robot navigation. The lecture provided valuable insights into robotics, autonomous systems, sensors, navigation techniques, and the practical applications of ROS.
Students actively participated in the session and gained a better understanding of emerging technologies in robotics and automation. The interactive session encouraged students to explore robotics and develop interest in practical applications of computer science.
The guest lecture was an informative and enriching experience, helping students connect their academic knowledge with real-world applications of robotics and autonomous systems.
The Department of Computer Science, Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women, Puducherry, inaugurated the Cyber Association on 21st August 2026 at the Idhaya Auditorium.
The programme included the inauguration, screening of the previous year’s achievements, presentation of the 2026–2027 action plan, and inspiring addresses by the distinguished guests.

The Department of Computer Science celebrated Immaculate Education Day on 18 August 2026 at Aravindar Higher Secondary School, Muthiyalpet, commemorating the 220th Birth Anniversary of Founder Father. The programme featured a special speech, competitions, prize distribution and sweet distribution, highlighting the values of education, service and women’s empowerment.
On 03.07.2026, the Department of Computer Science organized a outing to Craft Villa, Puducherry for first-year students to mark the beginning of the academic year. The students enjoyed exploring the creative space, bonding with their classmates, and creating wonderful memories together. The outing was filled with fun, laughter, and enthusiasm.
The Valedictory Ceremony of the Cyber Association, Department of Computer Science, Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women, was held on April 29, 2026, at the Idhaya Auditorium. The program began with a prayer and welcome address, followed by the felicitation of the chief guests, Dr. S. K. V. Jayakumar and Dr. Mohan Prasad.
The annual report and department magazine were presented, and both chief guests delivered insightful speeches. The event also included a prize distribution to honor student achievements and concluded with a vote of thanks.

Mrs. Karpagam, Emcee, Anchor, former Reporter, Voice-over Artist from Puducherry, and an alumna, was the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring speech. Games were conducted for parents and prizes were distributed, while B.Sc. Computer Science and BCA students presented dance and singing performances, and the department expressed thanks to our respected Principal Sister for her support.

The Department of Computer Science organized an Educational Tour from 05.02.2026 to 07.02.2026 for I and III year students to Munnar, Kanthaloor, and Marayur. The tour provided valuable experiential learning opportunities, strengthened team spirit among students, and offered a refreshing break from regular academic activities.
The Pongal celebration was held on 10th January 2026 at Embalam, the adopted village of the Department of Computer Science. The program began with the traditional Pongal preparation, symbolizing gratitude for a bountiful harvest. Students actively participated in cultural events and interacted with the villagers to strengthen community bonds.
The Department of Computer Science and BCA organized an add-on course Data Science with Python Programming in collaboration with IBM Cloud, starting on 26 November 2025. The inaugural session introduced the course objectives, structure, and learning outcomes, along with the significance of IBM technologies in the current IT industry.
A total of 60 students actively participated, gaining an overview of basic concepts, platform usage, and course guidelines. The session concluded with positive involvement from the learners and a clear understanding of the course plan ahead.

Sudalai Muthu from HITS served as the resource person and delivered an informative session on the importance of effective prompts in AI.Students from nearly 12 colleges and various departments of Idhaya College actively participated.The session included live demonstrations and an engaging Q&A segment.The seminar successfully created awareness about the growing significance of Prompt Engineering in the field of AI.
On 4th November 2025, 90 members of first-year Computer Science students, along with two faculty members, visited TIDEL Neo, Koot Road. The visit included engaging sessions on Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Marketing, and Full Stack Development, giving students insights into current industry trends and career opportunities. A quiz and fun games added excitement to the learning experience. Overall, the visit was informative and enriching, offering valuable practical exposure to modern IT advancements.

On account of youth day , our college celebrated International youth day in our idhaya campus on august 8th 2024, the event has conducted with various competition like rangoli, speech, poetry, drawing etc, student are enjoyed and participated in the competitions.
Our college celebrated 78th indepence day on august 15,2024, the chief guest Dr.K. karpagam, associate professor, kanchima munivar, PG studies and research, the event was started with welcome address and the chief had good motivational speeh to the students.
THE departement of computer science and bca jointly organized a bible day competition and diwali celebration on october 29,2024. the festivities featured various competition including bible verse recitation,and green and safe diwali .
The tour was organized by idhaya college from 8th october night to 11th morning , the journey occupied by respective travel buses, the place students was visited mattuoetty river, kanthaloor water falls, flower show, marayoor view point, sandal forest, jaggery factory, etc. +
On october 25,2024 nine students from our department of computer science attended an AWS workshop at achariya college , the session held by MRS.vijayalakshmi from adevops engineer from sivisoft solution pvt.ltd. our students participated and brought the certificate .
On october 21,2024 our department conducted an aptitude test for first, second, third years students,multiple choice question was given and conducted for the time duration and the questions are problem sloving and related to competitive exams.
On 22 october 2024 our department students went to immaculate heart of mary girl's higher secondary school for visiting "Imma Spectrum 2024" exhibition, the exhibition covered a wide range of subjects , it was informative and enlightening experience to the students.
The department of computer science organized an International conference on "Current and future impact in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics on 7th november 2024. the chief guest Dr.S. Sivasathya (dean) , school of engineering and Technology, Pondicherry university. and Resource person are Dr. R. Vidya , vice principal, St.Joseph's college of arts and science cuddalore. and MR.Elavarasan chakravarthy, Principal consultant, Germany. the students from others colleges have participated and presented the papers through the conference theme , certificates and prizes were distributed.

Awareness Program on diploma course has been arranged for II Year - Computer Science students to motivate them to improve not only in studies and to built confidence to face the competitive world by learning the emerging Technologies.
