AICUF (All India Catholic University Federation) is a student movement founded in 1924 at St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli by Fr. Carty, SJ, aiming to nurture social awareness, justice, and commitment among university students in India. It operates as an organization of Catholic university students, but is open to all who want to critically engage with social issues and strive for a just society, regardless of their religious background.
The central vision of AICUF is "to sensitize students towards those at the margins and involve ourselves in the struggle for their basic rights by equipping ourselves physically, intellectually, and spiritually while networking with NGOs and people's movements".It is committed to social justice, encouraging students to become critical and creative forces within and outside university settings through social outreach and personality development activities.History and Activities Progressing in a history of constant rediscovery and recreation, AICUF adapts to the emerging needs of universities, the church, and wider society.It organizes camps, seminars, workshops, social service events, and exposure sessions to foster awareness and action among students.The organization is affiliated with Pax Romana (IMCS), an international association of Catholic students and professionals.Membership and Structure Students interested in joining AICUF are welcomed regardless of their background, provided they wish to engage in social issues constructively.AICUF has units in 15 Indian states and a structured leadership composed of core members, subcommittees, and council members who facilitate various initiatives in their respective colleges and communities.AICUF remains committed to its motto: "We are born into an unjust society and we are determined not to leave it as we have found it," nurturing student involvement in leadership, social responsibility, and social justice.
