Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) programme is a three-year course for students who wish to delve into the world of computer languages. BCA course is one of the most popular options to get started with a career in information technology.
This degree would help in setting up a sound academic base for an advanced career in computer applications. The Department of Computer Application was started in the year 2016 with the intake of 30 students. The university had sanctioned 20 additional intakes of students in the academic year 2021-2022. The current department strength is 127 students. So far 119 students had passed out with good academic skills.
The department is enriched with adequate qualified and well experienced faculties. Also have well equipped lecture halls, computer lab, internet facility, projector in lab, audio visual room, Auditorium and a library to facilitate the students. Add-on courses like personality development, RJ/VJ, Digital Photography, Aari work, beautician, Herbal Gardening, silambam, etc. were given to our students to develop the talents and skills, to make them efficient to comprehend the opportunities and create a vibrant progress in all their endeavours.
The Department of Computer Applications aims to generate groomed, technically competent and skilled intellectual professionals, specifically from the rural area, to meet the current challenge of the modern computing industry.”
The computer lab is equipped with latest computers. Computer Lab 1 with 60 systems and 1 LCD projector. Our lab is well equipped with the latest configuration machines and original software. The network communication includes a fiber optic backbone offering 100 Mbps connectivity to the internet. The department has wireless internet connectivity to access the network by the laptop and mobile. Our curriculum includes a wide variety of subjects to enhance the practical knowledge of the students, which are listed below:
On 14th March 2025, our department students (I BCA& II BCA: Nos: 15) participated in the event and gain the knowledge about Network with experts and dignitariesin the field of Psychology and Education.
On 26.06.2025, Two students (III BCA: Nos. 2) attended a seminar of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Master Trainer Programme conducted by NSS Cell at Educational Office, Puducherry on topic "Harmful effects of Drug abuse and promoting a drug free life style among youth"
On 28.06.2025 , Ms.V. Sharmila, I BCA won I prize in essay writing competition conducted by Puducherry District Judiciary as a part of awareness programme on " Gender Sensitizationand elimination of violence against Women" held at Pondicherry University.
Ms. D.Thamizhselvi, III BCA, selected as 50th Tamilnadu State Shooting Championship held at Gurunanak College, Velacherry, Chennai on 14th september 2025
Ms. Deepthi, III BCA selected in the RDC-IUC selection camp held at Chidambaram. She has been selected to represent in the Republic Day Parade at Delhi on 26th January 2026.
Ms. D. Thamizhselvi, III BCA, won the gold medal in 50m Junior team event (Prone) and another gold medal in the 50m Junior team event (3P) and Bronze medal in 50m individual event (3P).
On 29.8.2025, in College Sports day, our department students won 3rd prize in March past, 3rd prize in formation dance, Ms. Elavarasi, II BCA won I prize in shotput, 2nd prize in Chess.
Report on Pondicherry Heritage Festival 2025
The Pondicherry Heritage Festival 2025 was held on 17/02/2025 at Alliance Française, Pondicherry, organized by the Heritage Department. Our department students Ms.S.Daniel, Ms. A. Safiabee, Ms. Danu sri, Ms.V. Hemashankari, Ms.S.Shalini from II BCA had won third prize in Group Folk Singing.
Final year BCA student Ms. Nivetha selected as a National player and participated in National roll ball championship competition on 22.3.25 and 23.3.25
On 3rd March 2025 , a felicitation Programme was held at the Governor Office, Puducherry. Ms.Deepthi.M, II BCA (NCC Cadet) had honour of being appointed as piloting the Lt.Governor of Puducherry for a day. She was also recognized by Shri.K.Kailasanathan, IAS(Retd) for her outstanding performance with an achievement certificate.
On 21st March 2025, Our department students (III BCA: Nos. 4) participated in National Level technical Symposium organized by Christ College of Engineering, Puducherry.
On 25.08.2023, Ms. Monika, III BCA, won I prize in ppt presentation on topic "Machine Learning" in International Seminar " Emerging Treands in Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining" conducted by Department of Information Technology, Saradha Gangadharan College, Puducherry.
On 30.04.2024, final year BCA Students (Nos.6) had participated in the LUMOS 2K24 an inter collegiate cultural competition conducted by Pondicherry University Community College, Puducherry, and won the runner up trophy in Mime event.
On 13.01.2023, Ms. Deepiga and Ms. Srivinaya from I BCA particiapted in Singing competetion conducted by Bharathiar Arakattalai Trust, Puducherry and won I prize and III prize respectively. Also awarded with cash prizes and certificates.
On 01.01.2023, Ms. M.Jayasri , II BCA participated in Rangoli competition conducted by Sri Valli vilas Jewellery, Puducherry and won I prize.
on 13.03.2023 & 14.03.2023 Ms. Prithiksha.K and Ms. Prithiya.K, I BCA participated and won II prize in the event ADAPT TUNES conducted by Pondicherry University, Department of Information Technology in the NATIONAL LEVEL TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM.
Ms. Hemavathy.P achieved I prize in 100&200 meters in running on Sports Day (20.04.2023) held in our college.

The Department of Computer Applications organized a guest lecture on “AI Tools and Prompting” to enhance the students’ understanding of emerging Artificial Intelligence technologies and their practical applications.
The session was held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the A.V. Hall. Mrs. R. Priya, M.Tech., Project Manager, IT Firm, Chennai, served as the resource person. She introduced the students to various AI tools and explained the fundamentals of effective prompting. She also demonstrated how appropriate prompts can be framed to obtain useful and accurate outputs from AI tools.
The BCA students actively participated in the session and gained practical knowledge about using AI tools and formulating effective prompts for academic and professional purposes.
Ms. Vasantha and Ms. Abigail Ruby of II BCA served as the Masters of Ceremony. Ms. Elavarasi, III BCA, Department Secretary, delivered the welcome address, and Ms. Dhanalakshmi, III BCA, proposed the vote of thanks.
The session was informative, interactive, and beneficial in developing the students’ awareness and practical skills in Artificial Intelligence and prompt engineering.
The Department of Computer Applications, Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women, Puducherry, organized a workshop on “Data Analytics: Transforming Spreadsheet into Decision” on 31st August 2026 at 10.00 a.m. at the AV Hall.
The session was handled by Mr. M. Mohammed Imran Khan, Data & Business Intelligence Analyst, Trionix Tech Private Limited, Tiruchirappalli. The session was interactive and helped students gain practical knowledge about spreadsheets, data interpretation and business intelligence.
The programme was presided over by Rev. Sr. Dr. Fathima, Secretary & Principal, Idhaya College, Puducherry.
The Department of Computer Applications, Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women, Puducherry, inaugurated the Zetta Association on 21 August 2026 at the Idhaya Auditorium.
The programme included the lighting of the lamp, prayer song, welcome address, felicitation of dignitaries, welcome dance, and oath-taking ceremony of the newly appointed association leaders. The Annual Report 2025–2026 and Proposed Activities for 2026–2027 were also presented.
The event featured insightful addresses by Ms. Sankari Lakshminarayanan, M.Tech., MBA, Founder–Academic Director, SixFlame Academy; Dr. R. Kalpana, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who highlighted the importance of AI; and Dr. S. T. Arokkiya Mary, MCA., M.Phil., M.B.A., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Bharathidasan Government College for Women (Autonomous), Puducherry.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks. The event was presided over by Rev. Sr. Dr. Fathima, Secretary & Principal, Idhaya College, Puducherry.
On 18.08.2026, The Immaculate Education Day celebration was organized by the Department of Computer Applications and Anti Drug Cell, Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women, Puducherry, at New Modern Vidhya Mandir Hr. Sec. School, Puducherry. Around 90 students of XI Standard actively participated in the programme.
The Principal and Vice Principal of the school graced the occasion. Dr. M. Chandrakala , HOD, Department of Computer Applications gave an introduction about the college, Rev. Fr. Savenion Louis Dupuis, the Department of Computer Applications, and the Anti Drug Cell. BCA students conducted engaging activities including a game show, quiz, and poster presentation competition, and gave speech related to awareness talk on drugs and birth anniversary of father Dupuis , creating an enjoyable and informative experience for the school students.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions. As a token of love and appreciation, the college presented a file to all the participating students. The programme successfully promoted awareness, creativity, and positive engagement among the students.
The Department of Computer Applications organized an educational field trip for I BCA students to Auroville on 8th July 2026. The students (No. 45) and faculty (No. 2) departed from Idhaya College by bus at 10:00 a.m.
During the visit, the students viewed the iconic Matrimandir (Globe) from the designated viewpoint and learned about its significance. They also visited the Auroville Museum, where they gained insights into Auroville's history, vision, and sustainable way of life. The students enjoyed a shopping session at the Auroville outlets, exploring a variety of handmade and eco-friendly products.
The field trip provided the students with a valuable learning experience by exposing them to Auroville's unique culture, heritage, and sustainable practices. The visit was both educational and enjoyable for all the students.
The Zetta Association - Valedictory Function was conducted on 24th April 2026 at the Idhaya Auditorium between 11.00 am to 1.00 pm.
The event began with a prayer song and welcome address, followed by honouring the dignitaries, magazine release, and an annual report video highlighting the department’s achievements.
The function was graced by Chief Guests Dr. M. Chitra, Assistant Professor at Indira Gandhi College of Arts and Science, and Dr. D. Kasthuri, Correspondent & Principal of New Modern Vidhya Mandir Hr. Sec School. Special guests Ms. M. Vasanthra, Founder and Chief Physiotherapist of Yogahealsbyvasanthra, who shared inspiring insights with the students. A special segment, “Journey of Idhaya,” presented by III-year students, reflected their memorable experiences.
Presided over by Rev. Sr. Dr. A. Fathima, the event concluded with prize distribution and a vote of thanks, marking a meaningful end to the academic year.

National Level Workshop on the topic "Cyber Security Threats and Vulnerabilities in Everyday Life" organized by Department of Computer Applications on 12.03.2026. Dr. A. Udhayakumar, Head & Associate Professor, Department of Computer Appliations and Software Applications , Agurchand Manmull Jain College, Chennai graced as the chief guest and resource person.
On 10.02.2026 , Safer Internet Day was celebrated by Department of Computer Applications, Poster Presentation Competition was conducted for all the department students , an awarness session was given on topic "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning" by the resource person Mr. Jagatheeswaran, AL/ML Engineer, HTGE Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Sedarapet, Puducherry and Ms. Bhavaharani, HR,HTGE Technologies Pvt. Ltd, graced the function.
On 11.11.2025, Department of Computer Applications organized the Guest Lecture on the topic \"Breaking Barriers and Building Future\" which aimed at motivating students to overcome personal and professional challenges and to foster self-confidence for a successful future. Dr. S. Iswariya, Medical Cosmetology Consultant, Puducherry was the chief guest and Resource Person.
On 6th and 7th November 2025, MSME training programme was conducted for the 1st year students at MSME Training & Production Centre, Puducherry. The Programme was based on the topic of Basic Concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Fundamental Python Operators, Commands & Execution. Around 50 students actively participated and gained knowledge.
On 19th August 2025, Immaculate Eduaction Day was celebrated by Department of Computer Applications at Idhaya Auditorium. The purpose is to promote holistic development and academic excellence. Dr. S. Arockiasamy, Principal, Billabong High International School, Dr. Rajan, Clinical Director, East Coast Hospital, Dr. N. Murugesan, Nephrologist & Founder, East Coast Hospital, and Dr. Dava Anbu, Don Bosco School, Puducherrry were the Chief Guests. The Event encouraged the student\'s participation and creativity. Also fostered the values of education, discipline and unity.
The Department of Computer Applications organized the National Seminar on the topic "Artificial Intelligence of thing Applications in smart & Sustainable villages" for two days from 23.10.25 to 24.10.25. Dr. Selvakumar Kamalanathan, Assistant Professor, NIT, Tiruchi and Dr. K. S. Balamurugan, Professor, Head of ECE Department, Karpaga Vinayaga College of Engineering and Technology, Chennai were the Chief guests. Faculty memebers and students from various institutions actively participated and gained knowledge. The session was interactive and interesting. Overall, the seminar was highly informative and provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of AI.
On 7th October 2025, An industrial visit was organized for our department students to HTGE Technologies Private Limited, Thiruchitrambalam, Vanur Taluk TamilNadu. A total of 137 students along with 3 Faculties went to Industrial Visit.
The Department of Computer Applications conducted the Quiz competition for the department students on 12th November 2025 at Computer Lab 2 under the guidance of Dr. M. Chandrakala, Head of the Department. The competition consists of 3 rounds designed to test the knowledge, reasoning and current awareness of the students, providing them with a platform to showcase their intellectual abilities. Totally 25 teams participated enthusiatically and gained knowledge.
The Department of Computer Science and Computer Applications organized the Inauguration of Cyber and Zetta Association on 3rd September 2025 at the Idhaya Auditorium. The event was graced by Ms. A. Saranya Lakshmi, Founder & CEO of WINGS Career Directions, and Dr. S. L. Jayalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Pondicherry University, as the Chief Guests. Ms. E. Sharmilah, System Engineer II Developer in Python, Microchip Technology, Chennai as the guest of Honour.
On 28.03.2025, A seminar was conducted on topic "Transforming Industries and Daily Life in IOT" . Dr.K.S. Balamurugan, Professor and HoD of ECE, Karpaga Vinayagar Engineering College, Chengalpattu was the Chief guest and resource person and Ms.G. Kalyani, Research Associate , LLP, Chennai present the practical session.
On 14.12.2024, Department of Computer Applications students donated groceries to the Thirukanchi village people (20 families) those who were affected during the flood.
On 20.09.2024 , Department of Computer Science and Computer Applications jointly inaugurated their association CYBER & ZETTA respectively. Dr. S.L. Jayalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Pondicherry University was the Chief Guest.
WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION:
On 09.03.2024 Women’s Day was celebrated by our department in the adopted village, Lingareddipalayam, Puducherry. Mr. G. Durai, President, Lingareddipalayam village, Puducherry, Mr. G. Ramamurthi, Vice-President, Lingareddipalayam Village, Mr. N. Elumalai and Mrs. P. Meenatchi, Head,Women’s Self Help Group, Lingareddipalayam were the guests. As an inauguration session tree saplings were planted by the guests. Mrs. P. Meenatchi gave a speech on Women’s empowerment. Games were conducted among the village women. Prizes were distributed to the winners by the Chief Guest. Final year BCA students exhibit the various dishes in milletes. The Chief Guest and the audience tasted the food and congratulate our girls of their different preparation of foods in milletes.
On 27.02.2024 the seminar was conducted on “Artificial Intelligence in Space Exploration” between 10:00am and 1:00pm at A.V. Hall, Idhaya College.

Mrs. Sankari Laksminarayan., M.Tech., M.B.A., Chief Academic officer, Space Zone India, Chennai was the chief guest and presented the seminar. II & III year BCA students were the participants. The Chief Guest distributed the medals to the winners of the intra department events and issued the Certificates to the winners and also the participants of intra department events.
On 09.11.2023, Zetta Association, Department of Computer Applications conducted a one day workshop on "Data Analytics and Machine Learning". Mrs.R.Priya,M.C.A,M.Tech., Project Manager, Techeva, Australia and Ms.P.Arutselvi,B.Tech.IT, Tura Infotech and Academy, Puducherry were the resource persons.
On 28.10.2023, final year BCA students(nos. 48) with a faculty went to Industrial Visit to Code binds, Chennai. Web Development skill internship training was given to the students with a participation certificate.
On 29.09.2023, Department of Computer Application conducted National Seminar on "Emotional Intlligence on AI systems". Dr.B.Muthusenthil, M.E.,Ph.D., Head & Professor, Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences, SRM Valliammai Engineering College, Chennai was the Chief guest.
On 28.08.2023 Election was conducted for Department Secretary, Association Secretary, Various committee members
On 31.08.2023, Our department association inauguration was conducted. Our Chief Guest Dr. M. Paul Arokiadass Jerald, Associative Professor, Periyar Govt. Arts College, Cuddalore wishes the elected secretaries and head of the committee members of the department
On 29.03.2023, II BCA students created a herbal garden with 20 pots initially, various herbal plants were planted and the students are regularly maitaining the garden.
On 08.03.2023, I year & II year BCA students participated in Entrepreneurship activity conducted by the Idhaya college and awarded with medals.
On 22.03.2023, I year and III year BCA students (nos:72) with a faculty went to Industrial Visit at Water Purification Plant, Lawspet, Puducherry and Matrimandir, Auroville, Puducherry
