The annual student Election for the students of Department of Commerce at Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women was an vibrant event, reflecting the enthusiasm and democratic spirit of the student body. The Election Committee Incharge Mrs. E.Vimala (Assistant Professor Department of Commerce) decided on the various aspect of the election ensuring that every detail was meticulously planned and executed. The student election took place at St. Mary’s Block between 2:30 P.M – 3:30 P.M.
This year election was particularly noteworthy with three candidates eyeing for the coveted position of

The election process was conducted in a fair and transparent manner, with the candidates showcase their vision and plans for the student body. The campaign period was marked by a high level of engagement from both the candidates and the voters, with students actively participating in discussion and voicing their opinions.
The Election was conducted smoothly, with all necessary precautions in place to ensure the security of the participants. The election committee comprising of faculty members and student representatives, ensured that the voting process was impartial and that the votes were accurately counted.

On 24th October , Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women celebrated United Nations Day with great enthusiasm and fervor. The event was held in the AV Room, beginning promptly at 10:00 AM. This celebration aimed to honor the principles and efforts of the United Nations in promoting global peace, security, and cooperation.
The event commenced with the Thamizh Thai Vazhthu, a traditional invocation song that signifies respect for Tamil culture and heritage. This was followed by a solemn Prayer Song seeking blessings for the success of the event and the noble causes championed by the United Nations.
The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr.M.J Cecilia Shobana , Head Department of Commerce, who warmly greeted the audience and emphasized the significance of the United Nations Day. The speaker highlighted the UN's role in fostering global unity and peace, setting the tone for the day's proceedings.
Following the welcome address, A. Agalya Assistant Professor Department of Commerce, extended a heartfelt felicitation to the esteemed guests and dignitaries
The highlight of the event was the address by the Chief Guest, Dr. Vijayalakshmi. In her inspiring speech, Dr. Vijayalakshmi underscored the importance of international cooperation and the UN’s mission in addressing global challenges. She shared insightful perspectives on how each individual can contribute to achieving the United Nations' goals of peace, justice, and equality. Her words resonated deeply with the audience, instilling a sense of responsibility and commitment towards global issues.
On account of UNO Day celebration we have conducted quiz competition and poster presentation completion. All students enthusiastically participated and were awarded prizes by our esteemed Chief Guests.

On 24th October the Commerce Department of Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women organized a thought-provoking debate competition on the topic: "Is Integrity in Leadership the Key to National Prosperity, or is Integrity in Citizenship More Crucial?" This event was held in observance of Anti-Vigilance Awareness Week, aimed at promoting ethical values and vigilance in society.
The competition saw enthusiastic participation from eight teams, each bringing diverse perspectives and compelling arguments to the fore. The debate was judged by the esteemed Mrs. Rosary Ramona, Head Department of Corporate Secretaryship whose extensive experience and keen insights provided valuable guidance throughout the event. The organizing committee comprised Mrs. E. Vimala Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Ms. Cecilia Shobana, the Head of the Department of Commerce, whose efforts ensured the smooth execution of the competition.
The debate commenced with a formal welcome address, where participants and audience members were briefed on the significance of the topic. It was emphasized how both leadership and citizenship play pivotal roles in a nation’s prosperity, setting the stage for a balanced and insightful discussion.
After a vigorous exchange of ideas, Mrs. Rosary Ramona provided her final remarks, commending all teams for their well-researched arguments and passionate presentations. She concluded that while both integrity in leadership and citizenship are essential for national prosperity, integrity in leadership holds a slightly higher significance as it sets the framework and inspiration for ethical behavior throughout the society.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the organizing committee, expressing gratitude to Mrs. Rosary Ramona for her valuable contribution as the judge, and to Mrs. E. Vimala and Ms. Cecilia Shobana for their dedicated efforts in organizing the debate. The competition not only highlighted the importance of integrity in various aspects of national life but also inspired participants and the audience to uphold these values in their own lives.
Overall, the debate was a resounding success, fostering a deeper understanding of the crucial role integrity plays in achieving national prosperity.

6.3.2024 – Inauguration of Tally with GST – Add on Course
The UG & PG Department of Commerce has inaugurated the Tally with GST – Add on Course on 6th March 2024 at AV Room at our college campus. The programme was presided over by Rev. Sr. Dr. A. Fathima, Principal & Secretary, Idhaya College of Arts & Science for Women. Our Chief Guests were Mr. S. Xavier, Retd Assistant Manager @ St. Joseph’s College of Arts & Science, Cuddalore, Coordinator of Edufash, Mr. S. Venkatasubramaniyan, Business Accounting Associate & Renowned Faculty in Tally to various Schools and Colleges and Mr. Sridhar. The Chief Guests was welcomed and honoured by Dr. G. Kalaiselvi, Head, Department of Commerce and the program was coordinated by Mrs. A. Agalya, Assistant Professor of Commerce. A brief overview of the inauguration about the event and its significance were given for the participants. The Guests explain the importance of Tally with GST in the current business landscapes, especially in India, due to the implementation of good and services. A clear statement of the objectives of the add-on course, such as equipping participants with partical skills in using Tally software for GST compliance and enhancing the students understanding of GST related processes and procedures were show cased in detail.

As the quotes suggest, The UG & PG Department of Commerce, organised and conducted the Parents-Teacher Meeting on 9th December 2023. The parents were asked to come and attend the meeting on Saturday 9.00 a.m. onwards. The meeting was conducted in respective classrooms separately for both the UG & PG Students. Class incharges were seated in their classrooms along with students attendance, I & II internal assessments and model examination mark register. Parents along with their children came for the meeting. Parents were happy for the conduct of meeting. Class incharges discussed students academic progress, shared insights into their performance, addressed concerns and provided the opportunity for parents to give suggestions if any. Parents gave their suggestions and opinion. This meeting foster collaboration between parents and teachers to support student’s overall development.

The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the Entrepreneur Development Cell organized an AARI work session for the students. The primary objective of the Aari work session was to familiarize students with the skill of Aari embroidery and provide them with practical experience and understanding of it. The course also sought to improve stitching techniques and encourage creativity.
The resource person for this session was Mrs. Latha, who is the founder of Hasini Aari Works. She was welcomed by our faculty members and the students. The session commenced with an introduction to Aari embroidery. Students were then familiarized with the tools and materials used in Aari embroidery, including the Aari needle, threads, beads, and embellishments. Practical sessions followed, where students learned basic stitches such as chain stitch and stem stitch under the guidance of a resource person.
The participation of students was enthusiastic and interactive. Students showed a high level of engagement throughout the workshop. They actively participated in discussions, asked thoughtful questions, and demonstrated eagerness to learn the techniques of Aari embroidery. Students actively listened to the instructor's explanations and demonstrations about Aari embroidery's techniques, and tools. They asked insightful questions to clarify their understanding and deepen their knowledge.

The Department of Commerce and the Entrepreneur Development Cell organized a seminar on customized chocolate making. It was held in the Idhaya AV room. This seminar aimed to introduce participants to the arts and techniques of creating personalized chocolates. It covered various aspects, from ingredient selection to packing, highlighting both creative and technical aspects of chocolate customization.
he seminar's resource person was Ms. Gayathri, who is the alumni of our college and the founder of Gayu Home Bakery. She was welcomed by the students and the faculty members. The seminar began with an introduction to customized chocolates, emphasizing their increasing popularity in personal and corporate gifting, weddings, and special events. Attendees gained insight into the diverse customization options available including shapes, flavours, fillings, and packings.
The students received a thorough explanation from Ms. Gayathri regarding the steps involved in creating personalized chocolates, including the kinds of chocolates that are used, melting and tempering, filling moulds, cooling, setting, and packing. She also provided an explanation of the various moulds and market-available equipment for making customized chocolates. Students participated enthusiastically in the interactive learning session, actively taking in information about the subtle differences between dark, milk, and white chocolate. The tempering process, moulding techniques, and other related topics grabbed their curiosity.

Ishra beauty makeover studio. She was welcomed by our faculty members and the students. That sounds like an interesting session! Introducing students to self-grooming and then delving into makeup can be quite comprehensive. Makeup is often a significant aspect of personal grooming, encompassing techniques for enhancing facial features and presenting oneself confidently.

On 10th July 2024, the Department of Commerce and the Entrepreneur Development Cell organized a photography learning session for the students. This session aimed at helping students maximize the potential of their smartphones for high-quality photography. The session featured Mr. Arun, a professional photographer and web designer who shared valuable insights and techniques. The session's primary objectives were to teach students the fundamentals of mobile photography, demonstrate the capabilities of smartphone cameras, provide practical tips for enhancing mobile photography skills, and encourage creativity using readily available tools.
The session began with the introduction of photography along with the discussion on the advantages and limitations of smartphone cameras. Participants were then guided through the features of their smartphone cameras, learning about settings such as focus and exposure. The expert demonstrated built-in camera modes and filters, providing a comprehensive understanding of the tools at their disposal.
In addition to this, students were also taught about how to handle cameras and a proper understanding of basic photography principles. A significant part of the session was the hands-on practice, where students took photos around the campus using their smartphones. The expert provided practical guidance to improve their shots and apply the techniques discussed. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment where students received personalized tips from the expert. Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, with students appreciating the practical tips and hands-on experience. Many expressed a newfound appreciation for their smartphone camera capabilities and felt motivated to explore mobile photography further.

On July 12, 2024, the Department of Commerce and the Entrepreneur Development Cell organized a seminar focused on saree pre-pleating and box folding techniques. The seminar aimed to equip participants with practical skills in saree draping, emphasizing the intricate art of pleating and folding to achieve elegant and professional looks. The seminar's primary objectives were to teach various saree pleating and box folding techniques, enhance understanding and appreciation of traditional saree draping methods, and enable participants to drape sarees with precision and style.
he seminar was led by Mrs. Keerthi, a renowned saree drapist who provided a comprehensive, step-by-step guide on creating neat and symmetrical pleats, followed by a detailed demonstration of box folding and its application in saree draping. She gave a live demonstration of how to pleat a saree. She additionally provided information on the tools required and the techniques that can be applied to get flawless pleats.
The participation of the students was particularly noteworthy. They eagerly engaged in the interactive session. Their enthusiasm was evident as they asked insightful questions and clarified their doubts to perfect their skills. The students' active involvement not only enhanced their learning experience but also contributed to the overall energy and success of the seminar.
